Palmerston North City Council Animal Shelter Redevelopment

Lee Builders delivered the redevelopment and expansion of the Palmerston North City Council Animal Shelter, providing approximately 1,000m² of new purpose-built facilities designed to improve animal welfare, operational efficiency and staff functionality.

• Construction of approximately 1,000m² of new buildings
• Two standard kennel blocks
• Dedicated dangerous dog containment facility
• Administration and staff facilities building
• Animal isolation block
• Structural steel and timber framing systems
• Reinforced concrete foundations and slab construction
• Extensive site earthworks and site preparation
• Installation of large quantities of external footpaths and circulation areas

• 20 Lee Builders tradesperson involved in project
• 10 weeks of initial planning and design
• 14 months to completion
• The shelter remained operational during construction, requiring careful staging of works and close coordination with PN council staff to maintain safe separation between construction activities, personnel and animals.
